Former SC justice joins Citystate Savings

MANILA, Philippines - Citystate Savings Bank has elected former Supreme Court Justice Jose R. Melo as a member of its board of directors. Melo will sit as an independent director of the bank. Amb.Antonio L. Cabangon Chua is the board chairman. Melo was appointed by former President Fidel V. Ramos to the Supreme Court in 1992. In 2006, Melo headed an investigating body created by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to look into extrajudicial and political killings. The body, popularly known as the Melo Commission, rendered a report linking some military officials, notably retired Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan, to the killing of activists. Citystate Savings Bank is a joint venture project of Fortune Insurance Group and foreign investors in the Citystate Management Group Holdings Pte Ltd. of Singapore.
