Confab of global financial executives slated for December

Some 500 financial experts will be in Manila to attend the 2005 World Congress of Financial Executives to be held Dec. 5 to 7 at Makati Shangrila Hotel.

These experts from the world’s top companies are primarily chief executive officers (CEOs) and chief financial officers (CFOs), financial executives and professors of finance from Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Philippines.

"The Financial Executives of the Philippines (FINEX) will play host," Edgardo Limon, overall chairman of the World Congress Committee and president of Intex Telecom Systems, said. Congress theme is "Global Markets : Thriving in Shifting Financial Landscapes."

The event is organized yearly by the International Association of Financial Executives Institutes (IAFEI). Its representative in the Philippines is FINEX and the last time the Congress was held here was 17 years ago.

"This is indeed a rare opportunity to show the movers of global economy that the Philippines can very well host a conference of this magnitude," IAFEI champion Chit Manabat said.

President Arroyo will deliver the keynote speech while other speakers are: former president Fidel V. Ramos; Warren McGregor, board member of International Accounting Standards Board; Xiao Zhuoji, vice chairman, Committee on Social and Legal Systems, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Rajeev Suri, senior vice president, Asia Pacific Nokia Networks; Ming-Wen Hu, professor, Tamkang University of Taiwan; Cho Khong, chief political analyst, Shell International Ltd. UK; William Bikales, principle economist, Southern Asia Department, Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Aurelio Montinola III, president of Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).
