The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) was named among Asia’s best companies in the April 2001 issue of FinanceAsia magazine.
FinanceAsia included BPI in the top 10 list of all four categories in its annual Asia’s Best Companies survey. The categories are "Best Managed Company," "Best E-commerce Strategy," "Best in Investor Relations" and "Most Committed to Shareholder Value."
Respondents of the survey include investors and other executives from financial centers such as Singapore, Hong Kong, New York, and London.
It will be recalled that it was also FinanceAsia which awarded BPI the prestigious title of "Best Domestic Commercial Bank" in the magazine’s 2000 Century Awards.
The Ayala-led BPI continues to gain recognition from various world-renowned finance publications and rating agencies.
In the December 2000 issue of The Asset, a Hong Kong-based monthly magazine. BPI was awarded the prestigious Asset Asian Awards (Triple A). The magazine described BPI as "a haven of stability" and as "the oldest and best-run financial institution in the country."
The November 2000 issue of The Asaset placed BPI among the top 10 Banks in the Asian Corporate Foreign Exchange Market. This marked the first time that the bank made it to the Asian Top 10 in any of the time that the bank made it to the Asian Top 10 in any of the surveys conducted by any of the regional finance magazines.
It should be remembered that early last year, BPI was cited as the top domestic bank in the same market by another regional finance magazine Asiamoney.
Finance publication Euromoney included BPI in its list of Top Companies in Asia.
At the homefront, BPI recently copped the Most Outstanding PFI (Participating Financial Institution), All Around Performance and Most Outstanding PFI: Industrial Guarantee and Loan Fund Program (Commercial Bank Category) awards due to its most balanced and active participation in all of the Development Bank of the Philippines Wholesale Lending Programs.
