HSBC launches Rain Campaign

MANILA, Philippines - In an effort to safeguard rural water resources, the local unit of British banking giant HSBC has partnered with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to promote sustainable water sourcing, conservation and sanitation with the launch of the HSBC Rain Campaign.

The program’s initiatives range from water ‘footprinting’, rainwater capture techniques, waterway rehabilitation drives and volunteer opportunities for both HSBC Philippines employees and WWF supporters.

Last May 18, HSBC volunteers joined a team from WWF-Philippines in teaching students of Jaime Hilario Integrated School in Bataan viable ways to collect and conserve water- the element which brings life.

The volunteers conducted a coastal cleanup, painted rainwater collectors, and created a water-themed mural for the community.

“Protecting the environment is central to HSBC’s sustainability strategy. Our volunteer work is only the beginning of a five-year commitment to address a growing global challenge – water. Through this partnership with WWF, we hope to provide water conservation education to public elementary school students nearby and eventually help make safe drinking water more accessible to communities,” HSBC president and CEO Wick Veloso said.

“I am confident that with WWF’s expertise in water conservation and the dedication of HSBC’s volunteers we will create lasting impacts schools and barangays we will be working with this year.”

The HSBC Rain Campaign echoes the objective of the five-year HSBC Water Program which aims to make a sustainable difference in communities by providing safe water and protecting natural water resources.

The campaign is set to be formally launched in public elementary schools in Metro Manila this month.
