MANILA, Philippines - The town of Mayoyao in Ifugao is looking at commercial egg production to boost livelihood opportunities, and SN Aboitiz Power-Magat Inc. (SNAP-Magat) has given its support through its corporate social responsibility program.
A table egg production project of the Majawjaw Environment Guide Association (MEGA) is producing about 200 eggs a day since the project began in August.
The project consists of 200 layers of hens as start up. Proceeds of the project will be used by the association to expand the table egg production to other barangays of the municipality.
Table egg production is a potential income generating project for MEGA and a source of livelihood for its 40 members and other farmers in the municipality.
According to MEGA, egg is considered a prime commodity and its commercial production can help boost economic development in the area.
MEGA is a municipal accredited organization and a partner of the municipality in implementing livelihood and other programs.
The project is being implemented under the livelihood component of SNAP-Magat’s CSR program.
SNAP-Magat owns and operates the 360-megawatt Magat hydroelectric power plant bordering Ramon, Isabela and Alfonso Lista, Ifugao. It is a joint venture of SN Power of Norway and AboitizPower.
