Coffee Origins festival set in October

- The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines - The 10th anniversary of the Philippine Coffee Board Inc. (PCBI) will be celebrated in its annual coffee festival dubbed “Coffee Origins”.

The event, where thousands of cups of Philippine coffee are given for free to consumers, will run from Oct. 4 to 14 at the Greenbelt 5 gallery in Makati City.

“We thank Ayala Malls for being a big supporter of the coffee industry through this annual event,” says Pacita Juan, president of the non-stock, non-profit coffee group.

The event will feature many coffee varieties and blends from the Cordillera like Kalinga, Negros, Davao and Sulu among many other new coffee origins, who were just recently helped by the PCBI to” level up” and to improve the quality of their coffee.

“We will also feature new projects of the board such as “Buena Vista” – a replanting project for Arabica coffee sponsored by Bo’s Coffee,” says Nicholas Matti, chair of the PCBI.

“Steve Benitez of Bo’s Coffee, Manny Torrejon and I have personally attended to this project which will be part of the board’s four million target for new plantings,” he continues.

The coffee festival will also be supported by Alaska Fresh Milk and Krem Top creamers, Bo’s Coffee, among many sponsors who join the annual coffee event.

There will also be the fifth National Coffee Summit where stakeholders from all over the country will meet to refocus everyone’s plans to a unified mission: Planting four million trees and looking for new places to plant coffee (preferably in rainforests, in high elevations and in places where soils are still naturally organic or virgin).

Coffee seminars will also be held in Enderun Colleges during the coffee month specifically on Oct. 20 and 27.
