Agrilink 2012

MANILA, Philippines - Foundation for Resource Linkage & Development (FRLD) will highlight new technologies, inputs and good farm practices in animal health management through AgriLink, Aqua-Link and FoodLink, the country’s largest and most influential trade fair on agriculture, aquaculture and food from October 4 to 6 at the World Trade Center.

Now on its 19th edition, AgriLink’s thrust this year is improving animal productivity beyond medication.

AgriLink will highlight the animal health sector, but the triple exhibit will also provide pertinent seminars. As in previous years, AgriLink will feature live animal and plant displays and other special activities that will promote new technologies to improve productivity and sustain continuous agriculture and aquaculture in the country.

Antonio V. Roces, president of FRLD, said that employing new technologies, good practices and other inputs aside from medication could help sustain agricultural development through an interdisciplinary approach to animal health management.

This includes incorporating efficient, environment-friendly and sustainable forms of production like integrated disease management into animal husbandry and farm management practices, utilization of new technologies and building materials in animal housing design and equipment, layout and locations, drainage and waste management; utilization of controlled atmosphere systems and automated metered feeds and water inputs.

These all aim to improve animal health, which in turn improves productivity. Healthy animals ensure the sustainability of the production chain and provide high-quality animal products, from farm to consumer households.

On the other hand, president and COO of Univet Nutrition and Animal Healthcare Company (UNAHCO) and chairman of this year’s AgriLink, Ricardo C. Alba added, “the recent technological advances in animal health management have already contributed to improved productivity and have had positive impact on the production and delivery of quality animal products nationwide. To keep abreast with the latest trends, techniques and technologies, UNAHCO has formed alliances with global leaders in the field of animal health and nutrition such as Akey, Alltech, Novus and DSM. Together, we develop new products using specialty ingredients that will help enhance animal health, performance and productivity. UNAHCO serves as catalyst of technology transfer through the conduct of seminars, trainings and extension services.”

Roces added that for the animal industry, productivity is enhanced by farmers, entrepreneurs and producers availing of cost-effective but sustainable developments in animal husbandry practices with focus on nutrition, feed management, bio-security and disease prevention.

It also entails better production environment, with attention to land use and housing, air movement, humidity and temperature control, and waste management. Substantial benefits can also be accrued from information dissemination among stakeholders and consumers, improved genetic materials, marketing networks to empower producers to participate in government initiatives, building stronger farm-to-market linkages and improved infrastructure and capital.

Featured products also include agricultural chemicals, animal housing and breeding, animal health and nutrition, aquaculture equipment and inputs, communication and information technology, dairy products, equipment and machinery, facilities for cooking and storage, facilities for postharvest, feed ingredients, feed milling, fertilizers and pest management, financial institutions, fishery products, food ingredients and additives, food packaging, food processing, fruits and vegetables, greenhouses and nurseries, horticulture inputs, meat products, organic farming and hydroponics, publications, research and consultancy, seeds and planting materials, irrigation systems, transport and logistics, waste management.

Supported by the Department of Agriculture, its local government units, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Bureau of Agricultural Research and 20 other major trade associations, the event will also underscore the most up-to-date and ground-breaking inputs, technologies and alliances, which can enhance the profitability of the interdependent industries of agriculture, aquaculture and food while also emphasizing sustainability and productivity.
