GENERAL SANTOS, South Cotabato ,Philippines – The third party experts responsible for preparing the Tampakan copper-gold project draft mine environmental impact statement (EIS) will seek further stakeholder input before the report is submitted to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
SMI has directed the third party experts to invite stakeholders from the host communities, government as well as non-government organizations to comment on the EIS.
The EIS for the proposed Tampakan mine was prepared by third party experts AECOM Philippines, Inc. and Hansen and Bailey and released mid June this year.
SMI spokesperson John Arnaldo said the directive to the third party experts was in line with the company’s commitment to actively engage with stakeholders.
“We are committed to comprehensively consulting our stakeholders before we proceed with the project,” said Arnaldo in a recent interview with South Cotabato local media.
