Maguindanao implements El Niño mitigating measures

- Salembai Abdullah -

MANILA, Philippines - The provincial government of Maguindanao distributed recently 2,000 bags of hybrid rice and corn (open pollinated variety and hybrid), 36 bags of assorted vegetable seeds, and 40 units of shallow tube wells (STWs) for the farmers of its 36 municipalities.

Provincial agriculturist Mosibi-cak L. Guiabel said the activity was one of the mitigating measures identified by the Task Force El-Niño created during a forum on El-Niño held last Feb. 22.

The forum was sponsored by LGU-Maguindanao and co-spon-sored by Siad in Mindanao-Con-vergence for Asset Reform and Re-gional Development, in close coordination with the Regional and Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council, and the Department of Agriculture-Maguindano.

Asmad E. Enok, Maguindanao provincial administrator, said they are thankful that the fund for the program was released.

“We can now realize our agenda for the good of the province,” Enok added.

Representing the farmer beneficiaries, Datu Bagiyan M. Angeles extended his gratitude for the assistance. “We have proven that we farmers are important to you. We hope this initiative will continue,” Angeles said
