UNEP cites group, individual efforts to protect ozone layer

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) will honor outstanding efforts by individuals and groups in the protection of the ozone layer as part of the celebration for the International Year of the Preservation of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol’s 20th anniversary.
Among others, awards will be given to visionaries, outstanding contributors, implementers, partners exemplary projects and those who have contributed in raising public awareness on ozone depletion issues.
Part of the celebration is a search for the best 20th anniversary-related poster and the best new paper on a Montreal Protocol related topic and best newspapers or magazine article. At least one entry from each of the United Nations’ five recognized regions will be honored. Details of the contest can be found at http://ozone.unep.org. Deadline for submission to UNEP is June 1, July 15 and Aug. 1, 2007, respectively.
In the Philippines, participation in this event is spearheaded by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the Philippine Ozone Desk (POD) and the EMB’s Environmental Education and Information Division.
