Confab focuses on sustainable agriculture

-
Ensuring food for future generations will be the main agenda at the First Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) Platform Philippine Convention to be held on Oct. 9 at the Emerald Ballroom, Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila.

SAI is a platform created by the food industry worldwide led by Nestle, Unilever and Danone to actively support the development of sustainable agriculture. By doing so, the SAI Platform hopes to guarantee food for a growing population through efficient use of resources.

To achieve this goal, the SAI Platform aims to consolidate the efforts of the private sector, the government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the academe in developing and implementing sustainable agricultural practices and projects.

The SAI Platform hopes to draw attention to the fact that sustainable agriculture plays a crucial role in meeting society’s environmental, economic and social requirements.

More efficient agricultural practices could potentially improve the lives of farmers by ensuring bountiful harvests as well as aid the economy by reducing our dependence on importation.

SAI Europe guest speaker Patrick Leheup is slated to discuss the benefits of sustainable agriculture, in addition to global trends and practices. Leheup will likewise share the worldwide success stories of SAI Platform and provide advice on how to organize a local SAI Platform.

For more details, call Cindi Wong or Karl Domingo at the SAI Platform secretariat, tel. 6872649 or 6872692, email [email protected] or visit www.saiplaform.org.
