The on-the-spot poster making contest, spearheaded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Department of Agriculture (DA), and the National Agricultural and Fishery Council (NAFC) in coordination with the Department of Education, is held annually to highlight the WFD celebration.
Recognizing the contribution of different cultures to world agriculture, the celebration focuses on the theme "Agriculture and Intercultural Dialogue" which underscores that negotiation between different cultures is a precondition for progress against hunger and environmental degradation.
The 44 posters which made it through the finals were presented to the board of judges composed of Prof. Miguel Carpio (FEU), Prof. Jaime delos Santos (UST), Prof. Angelito de Guzman (UE), and Orville Tiamzon, and Agriculture and Fisheries Information Service director Inez Magbual. The posters were judged based on originality, visual impact, creativity, and relevance to the theme.
The best poster will receive P12,000 cash prize and a trophy while consolation prizes will each receive P7,000 cash prize and a trophy. Winning schools will receive a plaque of appreciation. All prizes will be shouldered by FAO. As part of the prize, winners will be treated to an educational tour on Oct. 27-29 sponsored by FAO and the NAFC.
Agriculture Secretary Domingo F. Panganiban and FAO representative Ramesh Jain will give the awards during the awarding ceremonies to be held Oct. 26 at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management coinciding with the closing ceremonies of the Consumers Welfare Month. DA-AFIS
