Yarning machine for abaca developed

-
A multi-strand yarning machine that can fill in the need of the country’s fibercraft industry has been developed.

The machine was crafted by Feliciano Sinon and Macuin Delantar of the National Abaca Research Center (NARC) based at the Leyte State University (LSU) in Baybay, Leyte.

Sinon reported the usefulness of the device to the abaca industry at the 17th National Research Symposium (NRS) third Technology Forum and Agriculture-Fisheries R&D Budget Dialogue 2005 held last Oct. 4-7 at the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) in Diliman, Quezon City. The NRS was one of the activities of the 2005 National Agriculture and Fisheries R&D Week held under the auspices of DA-BAR.

In his presentation, Sinon reported that the yarning machine can continuously produce two yarns with length of 1.2 kilometers by wrapping around the abaca fiber with polyester yarn.

The yarn produced is also automatically arranged in a spool while a timing device automatically locks when the yearn reaches 1.2 km long.

Even an unskilled operator can produce yearn with the machine at the rate of 380-430 meters per hour at an efficiency of 80-95 percent.

Comparative cost and return analysis showed that the machine can turn out a net income of P232 per day, has payback period of 0.61 year, and a return on investment of 165 percent. — RAF
