Hog farmers hold national convention

-
The National Federation of Hog Farmers Inc. (NFHFI) will hold their 14th Annual National Convention and Trade Exhibits on April 7-9, 2005 at the Tagaytay International Convention Center. This will be hosted by the Cavite Livestock & Poultry Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative headed by Belen B. Chavez.

NFHFI National Chairman Nemesio G. Co says the theme best described their aim of productivity in a climate of cooperation: "Paghahayupan, Gulong ng Masiglang Agrikultura at Matatag na Pamayanan."

According to Convention Chairman Lawrence C. Yu, the theme is meant to highlight the role of the hog industry in a progressive Philippine agriculture. The country’s hog industry – most of them backyard raisers – is currently valued at P92 billion.

Explains NFHFI president Albert R.T. Lim Jr.: "The convention will see a gathering of commercial and backyard hog raisers all over the Philippines. It will feature trade exhibits which will showcase the latest in services and products from local and international manufacturers of automatic equipment, veterinary products, pharmaceuticals and feeds.

"Another highlight of the event is a series of seminars on modern swine production methods and effective ways in eradicating the most common diseases – particularly foot-and-mouth disease and swine flu – that afflicts the hog industry.

The National Federation of Hog Farmers Inc. was established in 1990 for a common goal of helping uplift the country’s economic situation and is the umbrella organizations of 32 hog farmers’ associations across the country.
