Bother by the foul odor in your animal farms?
Use charcoal made from bamboo to control it, advised the National Livestock Research Institute (NLRI) in Suweon, Republic of Korea (ROK).
This bit of information is being shared by NLRI to the Philippines through the Los-Baños PCARRD. The result of the scientific study was received by PCARRD from the Taiwan-based Food and Fertilizer Technology Center (FFTC), which is assisting Asia/Pacific countries to enhance their agricultural development.
As synthesized by PCARRDs Dr. Tricia Javier, the research noted that 10-20 percent of bamboo charcoal mixed with water can be sprayed in a cow enclosure. Ideally, one liter of the mixture should be sprayed in a 100-square-meter area.
The charcoal can also be placed in a net and hung on cow barns wall.
The study also showed that one to two percent bamboo charoal powder can be mixed with the cow feed to remove the foul odor of the animals excretion.
It can likewise be mixed with the drinking water of the animal at a water-charcoal powder ratio of 1000:1. This way, the animal wastes foul odor can be lessened by about 50 percent.
Bamboo charcoal can also improve animal health, milk production and on preventing mastitis (inflammation of the udder or breat), and help prevent animal mortality. Rudy A. Fernandez
