President Arroyo has been invited to grace the festivities which has for its theme "Food Security for a Strong Republic."
Highlights of the occasion include the holding of a food fair and exhibits, seminars dealing on the rice industry, program to be attended by ranking officials, stakeholder representatives and other leaders of the grains industry.
NFA Administrator Anthony Abad invites the general public to the fair and exhibits where food demos, food tasting and sale will be open from Sept. 23-27 at the NFA Grains Complex at Visayas Ave., Quezon City.
The anniversary commemoration coincides with the celebration of the Grains Industry Week as provided for by Presidential Proclamation No. 1058 issued in 1997. The Executive Order institutionalizes a multi-sectoral celebration focusing on the enhancement of the national food security, promotion of food safety and quality consciousness among our people, and fair trade practices in the grains market, among others.
The NFA is the government agency tasked to ensure food security and stability of the basic staples. Its predecessor is the National Grains Authority. It is under the Department of Agriculture as an attached agency.
