MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will conduct another voter registration for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in December.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the poll body is planning to conduct the registration within 10 days, either in July or August, to enable more young people to vote.

Garcia said the Comelec is expecting at least 1.2 million people, especially the youth, to register.

“Lines are expected to be long, so we need to put up satellite registration centers or conduct the activity closer to people,” Garcia said during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay yesterday.

He said Comelec officials would discuss whether to extend the 10-day registration period.

Comelec Commissioner Nilo Pipo agreed with Garcia on the need to extend the registration period.

People who failed to vote in the past two elections may reactivate their status during the 10-day registration period, the Comelec said.
