JoyRide taps PLDT as connectivity provider

MANILA, Philippines — Motorcycle-for-hire app JoyRide PH has signed the services of telco giant PLDT Inc. to boost its connectivity solutions in preparation for further expansion.

JoyRide said it has entered into a partnership with the enterprise group of PLDT to expand the telco capabilities of the company and its app.

The partnership opens up the opportunity for JoyRide to integrate more of PLDT’s services in its operations, including Smart Messaging Suite, Smart Bro, Bizload, among others.

JoyRide is improving its connectivity suite to gear up for expansion activities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The platform is operating mainly in Metro Manila, but also offers select transport services in Baguio, Bulacan, Cagayan de Oro, Cavite, Cebu, Laguna, Legazpi, Naga, Pampanga and Rizal.

JoyRide uses PLDT’s Smart Messaging Suite to engage with customers in real time. The service allows JoyRide to send one-time PINs and ride updates in an automated way.

Further, JoyRide banks on Smart Bro to power the internet of tablets installed in its taxis, while the operator also simplifies loading for its riders through Bizload.

JoyRide also relies on PLDT’s SIP Trunk and Direct Subscriber Line, two services that allow it to manage the high volume of calls between riders and commuters.

PLDT, for its part, is keen on widening its role in the transport industry, acknowledging the shifts that it is undergoing right now in the digital era.

As an industry, transportation contributed nearly P203 billion to the economy, measured as gross domestic product, in the third quarter of 2024. Given this, PLDT first vice president and head of enterprise and international core business Albert Mitchell Locsin said the telco can help mobility firms like JoyRide to further scale up their business.

“Our partnership with JoyRide highlights the transformative power of technology in redefining the transportation landscape. By leveraging PLDT Enterprise’s suite of solutions, JoyRide is set to scale its operations while delivering smarter, safer and more efficient services,” Locsin said.

JoyRide president Neil Sherwin Yu, for his part, said the company plans to maximize the tie-up with PLDT to cater to the growing demand for ride-hailing services.

JoyRide is one of the three motorcycle taxi service providers authorized to operate provisionally by the government, but it also has presence in the four-wheel and logistics segments.
