MANILA, Philippines — Multi-awarded financial journalist Catherine Yap-Yang has retired from her post as first vice president and head for corporate communications of telco giant PLDT Inc.

PLDT yesterday announced the voluntary retirement of Yang in the company effective on Dec. 1.

PLDT said the development is not expected to have any significant impact on the company’s current or future operations, financial position or results of operations.

“Thank you to all my Kapatid at PLDT Group – I am incredibly privileged to have worked with you all. And to all my Kapatid in Cignal One News, I look forward to the new year creating more content and conversations for our fellow Pinoys – on air, on ground and online,” Yang said in a social media post.

“For 2025, the clarion call comes from media. With five seasons in – and multiple international awards to boot – Thought Leaders with Cathy Yang turns out to be just the start,” she said.

Yang joined PLDT in 2020 as group head of corporate communications and first vice president.

Before working as communication strategist and advisor of PLDT’s top management team, she served as an anchor and managing editor of the ABS-CBN News Channel.

Meanwhile, long time PLDT-Smart public affairs head Mon Isberto is back in the PLDT Group as a consultant, The STAR has learned.

The position Yang left as corporate communications head, meanwhile, will remain vacant for the time being.

Isberto retired from PLDT in 2020 after serving the company for 25 years.
