MANILA, Philippines — State-run pension fund Social Security System (SSS) has named Robert Joseph de Claro as officer-in-charge head following the resignation of Rolando Macasaet who will vie for a congressional seat.

In a statement, SSS said the Social Security Commission (SSC), the highest policy making body of the pension fund, has appointed De Claro as OIC president and CEO effective Friday.

This came a week after Macasaet tendered his irrevocable resignation as he filed his certificate of nomination and acceptance as nominee of the SSS-GSIS Pensyonado partylist.

Before his new role, De Claro represented the Employers’ Group of the SSC from January 2023.

SSS said De Claro is well equipped to lead the pension fund in advancing its mandate of providing comprehensive social security protection to Filipinos.

As a commissioner, he chaired the Information Technology as well as collection and contribution committee. He also participated in key committees covering audit, risk, investment and governance.

De Claro also represented the SSS in the boards of the Union Bank of the Philippines and Union Bank of the Philippines Investment Management and Trust Corp.

De Claro’s professional background spans over 32 years including executive roles in both the public and private sectors, particularly in the financial and corporate industries.

He began his career at Nestlé Philippines in 1993, eventually holding international positions as an expatriate in Australia and at Nestlé’s headquarters in Switzerland.

De Claro holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science with specialization in Information Technology from the De La Salle University.
