MANILA, Philippines — Dito Telecommunity Corp. has garnered multiple recognitions at the 2024 edition of the Opensignal 5G Global Awards, landing on the same spot as some of the biggest operators in the world.

Dito landed as one of the 5G Global Leaders for network availability and download speed in the large land mass group, which covers telcos operating in markets spanning at least 200,000 square kilometers.

Dito joins the likes of Australia’s Vodafone on 5G availability, and the telco is in the same league as France’s Orange on download speed.

For availability, consumers found that they can hook to 5G 29 percent of the time with Dito, and this is the reason it bested its domestic rivals in this category. American telco T-Mobile led all of the providers for 5G availability in the large land mass group.

As for quality, Dito turned in a 5G speed of 302.1 Mbps to land among the best of the best in the globe. Brazil’s Vivo ended up as the world leader for download speed, registering 365.6 Mbps.

Smart Communications Inc., the largest mobile operator in the Philippines, was picked as one of the 5G Global Rising Stars for 5G experience in games and voice in the large land mass group.

As a 5G Global Rising Star, this means that Smart made it to the list of the five operators across the world that showed the best improvement between 2023 and 2024.

Smart raised its 5G games experience by 11 percent, placing the telco on the same level as Saudi Arabia’s Zain (14 percent) and Romania’s Digi Mobil (12 percent).

Moreover, Smart improved its voice experience for 5G, similar to Romania’s Digi Mobil, United Kingdom’s Vodafone, Mexico’s Telcel and Canada’s Bell. For this, Smart raised by three percent the quality of its voice calls through 5G.
