MANILA, Philippines — The Spain-founded South Summit, a global platform for innovation and entrepreneurship, brings its act for the first time in Asia this week as it hosts in South Korea world experts in artificial intelligence and deep tech.

South Summit Korea, co-organized by Madrid-based IE University, in collaboration with Gyeonggi province and GBSA (Gyenggido Business & Science Accelerator), will bring together more than 80 artificial intelligence (AI) and deep tech experts, about a third of which represent startups and scaleups related to these technologies, such as Paddle, LottieFiles, k-ID, Asteroid Technologies, DeepX, Rebellions.AI and TIER IV, among others.

To be held in Suwon in Gyeonggi province, the event will mark the first edition of the South Summit Korea Championship from Sept. 25 to 27, in which the 30 finalist startups of the Startup Competition will compete to be crowned the best startup in the fields of AI and deep tech.

The finalist projects have been chosen from more than 420 applications submitted from 62 different countries.

“With this new event in Korea, we want to show the world the latest trends in these technologies, that are set to change our lives and jobs, but we also aim to connect with the vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystems of Asia and Europe,” said María Benjumea, president and founder of the South Summit.

South Summit Madrid has hosted more than 42,500 startups in its 13 previous editions. Its Startup Competition, which has produced seven unicorns, has generated more than 1,000 finalist startups, with a survival rate of 90 percent and $16.2 billion in investments raised.
