MANILA, Philippines — Health and beauty care chain store Watsons Philippines is planning to continue and improve the environmental efforts it has achieved based on its most recent sustainability report.

Last year, the store vowed to shift to observe more sustainable practices while also encouraging customers to take part in initiatives.

By the end of 2023, the company installed 30 solar panels across stores nationwide and saw its Sustainable Choices product offerings rise by 11.2%.

The store also had an 81% transition rate from plastic to paper bags in all branches while completely transitioning to recycled packaging for online deliveries.

The report also showed the store recycled over 2.8 million bottles, collected more than 6,000 kilograms of trash as part of the Trash to Cash Recycling Program, and saved 50,000 kilograms of ocean-bound plastic from polluting waters in partnership with Plastic Bank.

"For us, doing good means more than just providing quality products and access to health services. It's also about upholding our commitment to support our community and protect our planet," said the store chain's managing director Danilo Chiong.

The company is already doing well to improve on its 2023 efforts following the opening of its first "Greener Store" in San Pedro, Laguna last June.

The store runs on solar panels, offers a larger selection of Sustainable Choices products, and has the store's first refilling station for its Naturals line outside of Metro Manila.
