MANILA, Philippines — The country’s youngest telco is lapping its industry seniors in terms of internet speed, consistency and availability in some of the major tourist destinations in the Philippines, according to a study.
In a report, connectivity analyst Opensignal said Dito Telecommunity Corp. had the best quality of mobile internet in cities and provinces frequently visited by tourists.
For cities, Dito placed first, either outright or jointly, for all the metrics measured by Opensignal, leading its competitors in upload speed and consistent quality.
Mobile leader Smart Communications Inc. shared the top spot with Dito on reliability experience in eight cities, network availability in seven and download speed in four. Globe Telecom Inc., for its part, landed with Dito the highest score for video experience in nine cities.
Diving deeper into the data, Dito turned in the fastest speed of 55 Mbps in Cebu and Makati City, showing how the telco is prioritizing network rollout in high-demand areas. Dito and Smart also passed the reliability check with flying colors, while Globe failed to pass the category in any of the cities.
Opensignal looked into the telcos’ performance in 13 cities with substantial numbers of tourists, namely, Bacolod, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Lapu-Lapu City, Makati City, Manila City, Naga, Parañaque City, Pasay City, Rodriguez in Rizal and Zamboanga City.
Meanwhile, another Opensignal study bore similar results for provinces most popular for their world-renowned beaches: Aklan, Batangas, Bohol, Camarines Sur, Cebu, Iloilo, La Union, Palawan and Zambales.
For this, Dito achieved a clean sweep across all metrics in Batangas, Cebu and Palawan, and was leading rivals in upload speed in eight provinces, consistent quality in seven, network availability in six, and download speed, video experience and reliability experience in five.
