MANILA, Philippines — Ana Marie Pamintuan, The Philippine STAR’s editor-inchief, is one of 2024’s Journalists of Courage and Impact. For a decade now, the East-West Center, an institution in the Indo-Pacific that recognizes and equips a network of leaders to solve common issues, has been annually giving out the Journalists of Courage and Impact awards at each of the Center’s biennial media conferences.
This year, they gave out awards to seven honorees, one of whom is Pamintuan, to reflect “the East-West Center’s commitment to the critical role of journalism in fostering good governance and healthy and free societies,” said Glenn van Zutphen, founder and CEO of Van Media Group in Singapore and master of ceremonies at the awarding ceremony held in Manila.
Pamintuan – “Ms. Amy” to The Philippine STAR family – shares the distinction with six other awardees, one of whom is fellow Filipino journalist John Nery.
In her write up on the East-West Center’s website, the institution recognizes Pamintuan’s coverage of “various beats from the police and judiciary to local government and national politics.” The center also writes how she “has built a reputation for fearless journalism, addressing controversial and sensitive topics with clarity and insight.”
Aside from steering The Philippine STAR to greater heights, Pamintuan also co-hosts Storycon, a news and current affairs TV talk show on One News.
