MANILA, Philippines —  Six companies are vying for 400 megawatts (MW) of mid-merit power supply to be procured by Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) through a competitive selection process (CSP).

Following the July 1 deadline for the submission of an expression of interest, Meralco told The STAR that the bidders offered a total contract capacity of 1,220 MW.

The names of the interested power suppliers will be revealed at the pre-bid conference on July 11.

The Pangilinan-led power distributor last month opened the CSP, which covers a 15-year power supply agreement (PSA) that is targeted to start on Aug. 26, 2025.

The bidding was open to greenfield and brownfield power plant operators.

Based on the terms of reference of the CSP, the minimum offered contract capacity per bidder should be at least 150 MW.

The bid submission deadline is scheduled for Aug. 9.

Last month, Meralco also launched the CSP for 600 MW of base load supply, which attracted eight bidders with a total offered contract capacity of 1,870 MW.

The company earlier said the conduct of the CSP is in line with its continuing efforts to ensure the availability of reliable, sufficient and cost-competitive power for its customers.

Meralco is the largest power distribution company in the country, providing electric service to around 7.8 million customers within its franchise area coverage, which includes Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan, and select areas in Pampanga, Batangas, Laguna and Quezon.
