Alsons eyes new ecozone in Sarangani
MANILA, Philippines — Alsons Group is looking to develop a new economic zone in Sarangani and expand its existing industrial park in the province, according to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
PEZA director general Tereso Panga said Alsons Group is proposing to apply with the investment promotion agency for a 50-hectare agroindustrial economic zone in Sarangani.
The 50-hectare property form is part of Alsons Group’s 1,000-hectare pineapple and banana plantation in the province, Panga also said.
At present, the proposed area houses the box packaging facility of fresh pineapples and bananas predominantly for export.
Alsons Group is currently the fourth biggest producer of fresh pineapples in the country.
In terms of yield per hectare, the group is the second most productive pineapple grower in the country, with an output of 6,000 boxes of quality pineapples per hectare.
Aside from a new ecozone project, Panga said ecozone developer Kamanga Agro-Industrial Development Corp. (KAIDC), which is under the Alsons Group, has applied to expand the 91.7-hectare Kamanga Agro-Industrial Ecozone (KAIEZ) in Barangay Kamanga, Maasim also in Sarangani.
KAIDC has applied to expand the ecozone by an additional 32.8 hectares to accommodate the projects of its locator companies.
