MANILA, Philippines — Maynilad Water Services Inc. said it has completed an initial 11.6 kilometers of new sewer lines in Valenzuela City as part of its project that seeks to catch wastewater of the residents.

The west zone concessionaire said the new sewer network would catch the wastewater generated by around 190,000 customers in Barangays Karuhatan, Malinta, Marulas and parts of Maysan in Valenzuela City.

The wastewater will be conveyed to the water utility firm’s water reclamation facility in the city for proper treatment before being discharged to water bodies.

The initial sewer lines completed by the company is part of its planned 28-kilometer sewerage system project in Valenzuela City.

Maynilad is spending at least P4.6 billion for the sewerage system and the reclamation facility, which was a capacity of 60 million liters per day.

“Even as we facilitate projects to enhance water supply availability, we remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding public health and the environment through continued investments in wastewater management projects,” Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez said.

“This underscores the importance we put into the well-being of the communities we serve,” Fernandez said.

Maynilad said it utilizes a “trenchless” methodology in laying the sewer lines to minimize the project’s impact on traffic along MacArthur Highway.

The methodology involves the insertion of pliable yet strong pipes through an insertion point instead of digging up trenches on the road to lay pipes, the firm added.
