MANILA, Philippines — Razon-led Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc.’s subsidiary Prime Solar yesterday inaugurated a 64-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Tanauan, Batangas.

Prime Infra president and CEO Guillaume Lucci said the facility, which broke ground in the second quarter of 2023, would now contribute to the country’s transition toward a clean energy future.

Combined with Prime Infra’s facility in Maragondon in Cavite, Lucci said the two facilities would have over 120 MW capacity.

“That should be enough to power over 80,000 households,” he said.

He said the Tanauan facility would be connected to the grid on June 12, while the Maragondon plant would also be connected soon.

“So we are collaborating very closely with Meralco (Manila Electric Co.) to ensure that last details are put in place and we’re in a position to dispatch power as soon as possible,” he said.

According to Lucci, the project’s completion is timely amid the recurring yellow and red alerts.

“I think we’re really delighted to add capacity to the grid,” he said.

While the firm has just inaugurated the Tanauan plant, it is already expanding the facility through an additional 10 to 12 MW capacity.

It is also adding 10 to 12 MW to the Maragondon facility.

“The additional 10 to 12 MW will happen within the calendar year. We’re already working on that,” Lucci said.

The company is considering building more solar plants in the country.

“We are certainly evaluating the possibility of building more solar plants. As you know, we are focused on renewable energy and solar is of course a big part of that. So I think we will communicate what our plans are in due time,” he said.
