CEBU, Philippines — SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp., the country’s flagship steel company, has exported P1.5 billion worth of rebars to Canada.
Rafael Hidalgo, senior vice president for business development at SteelAsia, said in a briefing that the company shipped high strength steel with a total value of P1.5 billion to Canada in the last two years.
The steel manufacturer, which is focused on catering to the local market, made six shipments totaling 41,418 tons of high strength steel to support a railway system being built in Canada.
SteelAsia chairman and CEO Benjamin Yao said the company was able to export its products to Canada following its partnership with Acciona, which built the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.
“This is all because we supplied for the Cordova Bridge. And the contractor was Acciona,” he said.
He said Acciona is also the contractor for a subway project in Vancouver, Canada.
“They are happy with our service,” Yao said.
According to Hidalgo, SteelAsia is currently in talks for possible additional shipments.
SteelAsia has been producing steel products since 1965. It has six plants located in Bulacan, Batangas, Cebu and Davao.
