These beneficiaries of Petron’s scholarship program are now working at the company’s refinery in Bataan.

MANILA, Philippines — The education programs of Petron Corp. were recently recognized at the 16th Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit and Awards held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The company received the Best Community Programe Award in the Silver Category for Petron Foundation’s Tulong Aral ng Petron (TAP) and the Petron Refinery’s Bataan Engineering Scholarship Program.

TAP is Petron’s flagship CSR program that provides students from the company’s fenceline communities with educational assistance and other support programs for both the scholars and their parents. Meanwhile, the Engineering Scholarship Program assists promising engineering students with the goal of employing them at the Petron Refinery in Bataan. These programs have benefitted close to 18,500 scholars from across the country since 2002 and 2008, respectively.

The award was received by Petron AVP for Corporate Affairs and Petron Foundation executive director Mia delos Reyes. The summit was also attended by representatives from Petron’s parent San Miguel Corp. who received the award for SMC’s women empowerment program, Abante Babae.

Co-organized by the Pinnacle Group International and Sustainable Technology Centre, the Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit and Awards is “Asia’s most prestigious recognition awards program for corporate social responsibility and ESG”. It recognizes companies for outstanding and innovative products, services, and projects.

The award highlights Petron and SMC’s commitment to a sustainable future by uplifting communities and fueling journeys.
