MANILA, Philippines — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) welcomes Vietnam Airlines, the 50th foreign airline that operates at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Vietnam Airlines announced yesterday that it added Manila to its routes with direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to NAIA starting June 17.

The Hanoi-Manila route will have three flights per week every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. There will also be four flights a week linking Ho Chi Minh City to Manila every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The new routes mark a milestone in Vietnam Airlines’ international flight network development strategy as they connect Manila, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, three leading economic hubs in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam Airlines is the first Vietnamese airline to launch flights to Manila.

The opening of direct air routes to Manila will also help promote economic, cultural and tourism exchanges between Vietnam and the Philippines, as well as throughout the Southeast Asia region.

MIAA general manager Eric Ines said: “We welcome Vietnam Airlines at the NAIA starting June 17. This new development will further strengthen our trade relations with Vietnam. A fastest developing country in the ASEAN region. We can also learn from Vietnam not only in terms of agriculture as we import rice from them, but also in other industries as well as Vietnam has already developed their version of Electric powered vehicles. Another important plus will be tourism. We hope more Vietnamese will visit our country soon.”
