MANILA, Philippines — Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) fortified its growth initiative in Luzon with the inauguration of its new distribution center in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
The listed supermarket operator owned by the Gaisano Group said it has commenced operations of the Metro Distribution Center, a modern facility spanning three hectares that is dedicated to strengthen MRSGI’s supply chain and service its current network of stores.
The facility supports the company’s ambitious expansion plans in Luzon over the next five years.
“The significance of this new and modern warehouse transcends more than just logistics. It is the keystone of our ambitious plan to expand our Metro Store presence in Luzon, ensuring not only that more communities have access to the quality services and products that Metro is known for, but also for our company to keep, help, invigorate our local economy and provide employment,” MRSGI chief operating officer Manuel Alberto said.
Aside from playing a key role in the company’s ambitious plan to expand its presence in Luzon, Alberto said the facility would ensure that more communities have access to the quality services and products that the company is known for, while also contributing to the local economy and providing employment opportunities.
The distribution center can handle up to 25,000 cases daily for both inbound and outbound processes, resulting in a maximum throughput of 1.5 million cases monthly.
MRSGI said such capacity effectively supports the company’s extensive network of stores across Luzon and the Visayas.
According to the company, the facility has ample room for future growth, with a designated expansion area within the 10-hectare property.
“This provision allows MRSGI to accommodate both internal requirements and potential external partners, ensuring flexibility and scalability in its operations,” it said.
The distribution center is also equipped with solar panel-ready infrastructure, a sustainable initiative that aligns with MRSGI’s commitment to environmental responsibility while reducing its carbon footprint.
MRSGI said it continues to explore opportunities to enhance its capabilities and strengthen its position as a leading retail provider in the country.
It operates a total of 64 branches across Luzon and the Visayas under the store formats Metro Supermarket, Metro Department Store, Super Metro Hypermarket and Metro Value Mart.
