MANILA, Philippines — Aboitiz Power Corp. the listed power arm of the Aboitiz Group, has announced the appointment of Danel Aboitiz as the next president and CEO of the company starting July 1.
The appointment of Aboitiz marks the return of AboitizPower’s leadership to a member of the prominent Cebu-based clan. He will succeed current president and CEO Emmanuel Rubio who will be retiring by the end of June.
Rubio, who was appointed for a two-year term in January 2020, succeeded Erramon Aboitiz who became president and CEO of Aboitiz Power in 2018.
Erramon succeeded Antonio Moraza who was president and CEO of the company from 2014 to 2018.
Both Aboitiz and Moraza are members of the Aboitiz clan, while Rubio is a non-family executive.
Danel Aboitiz, meanwhile, is the son of Enrique Aboitiz.
The younger Aboitiz is currently the chief commercial and stakeholder engagement officer of AboitizPower and concurrently holds various directorships within the Aboitiz Group.
In October 2023, he was appointed as Private Sector representative for Mindanao for the Inter-Agency Investment Promotion Coordination Committee of the Department of Trade and Industry.
He also serves as a director of the Philippine Electricity Market Corp., vice chairman of the Philippine Independent Power Producers Association and vice chair of the Energy Committee of the Management Association of the Philippines.
He has also served in various capacities throughout the Aboitiz Group and has been extensively involved in the different business units of AboitizPower.
From 2016 to 2018, Danel Aboitiz served as president and COO of AboitizPower’s coal and oil business units.
He also handled key positions in AboitizPower’s renewable power generation companies from 2010 to 2016, including the SN AboitizPower Group and AP Renewables Inc.
He graduated with honors from the University of Edinburgh with an MA Degree in Philosophy and Politics.
AboitizPower reported earlier a 29-percent jump in core net income to P32 billion in 2023 from P24.8 billion in 2022.
