MANILA, Philippines — Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC) has put up a seamless connection between its mall in Pasig and a station of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) in support of the government’s push for interconnectivity in the country’s transportation system.
In partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Light Rail Transport Authority (LRTA), RLC inaugurated yesterday The Link, an expansion of Robinsons Metro East mall.
A right of way usage agreement for the interconnection of the mall and the LRT-2 and Marikina-Pasig station was likewise signed by the parties in an effort to deliver a comfortable and accessible public transport facility for passengers.
“The concept of the interconnection access is beyond building simple infrastructure. It is a step toward the government’s effort to promote a seamless commuting experience for the riding public,” DOTr Assistant Secretary for railways Jorjette Aquino said.
“Robinsons Land Corp. takes the step with us by effectively providing an alternative passageway for commuters utilizing the LRT-2 Marikina-Pasig station. Robinsons’ earnest cooperation with LRTA testifies to their commitment in facilitating efficient transportation to the people,” she said.
Aquino said the partnership serves as an ideal template wherein the government and the private sector can actually collaborate to provide better public service for commuters.
RLC vice president for operations and marketing Joel Lumanlan said The Link provides more than 4,000 square meters in additional space that directly connects to the Marikina-Pasig station.
RLC said residents and students coming from Pasig and Rizal province would benefit from The Link’s accessibility to the LRT-2.
The LRT-2 runs through the University Belt, a stretch of universities and colleges in Manila.
RLC said the Link eliminates the need for train riders to leave the train station by going down to the street and then walking long distances to be able to do their shopping.
Those with cars could also park their vehicles at the mall and take advantage of the rail services to not only save time and resources, but also contribute to reducing road congestion and carbon emissions.
“We at Robinsons Malls share LRTA’s mission to enhance people mobility. Aside from giving our customers diverse dining, shopping and entertainment options in Robinsons Metro East, we now also give them easy, safe and convenient access to their mobility needs,” Lumanlan said.
