PWEI to complete phase 2 of Nabas wind project
MANILA, Philippines — Yuchengco-led PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI) is poised to expand its capacity next year with the completion of the second phase of its wind project in Aklan.
PWEI said it has commenced expansion of the Phase 2 of the Nabas wind power project, which will increase its energy production capacity from 36 megawatts (MW) to 50 MW.
The expansion project will add six wind turbine generators alongside the existing 18 of Phase 1.
PWEI targets to complete Phase 2 by 2024.
“The commencement of the project underscores our commitment to help address the growing demand for power in the Visayas grid while fostering sustainable development in the countryside and long-term partnerships with our stakeholders,” PetroGreen Energy Corp. senior manager for environment and community relations manager Yrel Ventura said.
Prior to the construction of Phase 2, PWEI said it secured all necessary permits from the Department of Energy, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and other national regulatory agencies.
The project was also given the green light by its host barangays and local government units through endorsements and clearances.
As part of its sustainability framework, PWEI said it implements a proactive four-pronged environmental program aimed at managing its impact to the environment and communities.
The company has also invested over P175 million in bioengineering solutions for its ridge-to-river rehabilitation program.
“These efforts were recognized by DENR in 2016, through a letter of commendation citing PWEI’s mitigation measures as model for other project developers in Aklan. Together with the DENR, Protected Area Management Bureau, and other stakeholders, PWEI also conducts thorough and regular environmental monitoring,” the company said.
