MANILA, Philippines — Enrique Razon-led MORE Electric and Power Corp. has rolled out zero-emission and fully electric shuttle service in Iloilo City in partnership with the SM Group.

MORE Power, Iloilo City’s electric distribution utility, and SM City Iloilo launched the first of 10 electric bus units expected to be rolled out this year.

MORE Power said two more electric bus units are slated to arrive in October, with seven additional units scheduled by year-end.

Each electric bus represents an investment of approximately P4 million to P4.5 million, according to the company.

The fully electric shuttle service offers an initial route from the Iloilo City Hall to the Ceres North Bound Terminal, stopping at various SM locations from Monday to Saturday.

MORE Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro said the company’s partnership with SM City Iloilo is seen to benefit Iloilo City, as the introduction of electric buses would support the city’s sustainability goals and address its need for more eco-friendly transport alternatives.

“This initiative not only showcases MORE Power’s commitment to supplying electricity, but also underscores its dedication to fostering a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for Iloilo City,” the company said.

“The electric bus leaves no pollution in its wake, contributing to cleaner air, quieter streets, and an overall enhancement of urban living conditions. This forward-looking project presents a golden opportunity to foster innovation and accelerate the adoption of sustainable transportation solutions throughout the city,” it said.

MORE Power said the electric buses have been designed with inclusivity in mind, featuring amenities such as ramps and designated seats to ensure accessibility and comfort for all passengers, mainly persons with disabilities.

In 2020, MORE Power took control of the Iloilo City distribution assets of Panay Electric Co.

MORE Power has since embarked on intensive modernization efforts and programs to deliver improved and better services to the city.
