MANILA, Philippines — The road linking the Manila – Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) and C5 Road is set to significantly reduce traffic in the cities of Parañaque, Las Piñas and Taguig, according to Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC).

CIC said it would place the girders that would be used to link Cavitex and C5 Road from Sept. 15 to 25.

To ease the traffic during the said activity, CIC would enforce counterflow schemes at Parañaque toll plaza between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. to make way for the girder launch.

According to CIC, the counterflow for Manila-bound traffic is from Sept. 15 to 19 and for Cavite-bound motorists from Sept. 19 to 25 . The concessionaire would open counterflow lanes as needed.

CIC president and general manager Raul Ignacio asked for understanding from motorists should the girder launch cause traffic buildup at Cavitex.

He said the completion of the Cavitex-C5 Link Segment 2 should be prioritized, as it would trim travel time from Coastal Road to Sucat.

“Cavitex-C5 Link Segment 2, once completed by the first quarter of 2024, will help cut travel time to Sucat from Coastal Road and vice versa by 10 minutes, making daily commutes efficient and seamless for our motorists,” Ignacio said.

The girder launch would be done at the R1 Interchange, a 1.9 kilometer road that forms part of the Cavitex-C5 Link.

The toll road is expected to serve more than 50,000 motorists a day, bringing down the travel time between Makati City and Taguig City.

CIC is leaning on the Cavitex-C5 Link to improve the traffic condition in the cities to the south of Metro Manila, especially in Las Piñas City and Parañaque City. With the project, motorists will be given an alternative route instead of passing through service roads.

Last March, CIC signed the services of China Road and Bridge Corp. (CRBC) for the civil works of the Cavitex-C5 Link Segment 2.

Based on the alignment, CRBC is tasked to build the section designed as an expressway bridging Coastal Road and Sucat via the R1 Interchange.

CRBC has completed multiple projects for private and public clients in the Philippines like the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge and the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge.

CIC, a division of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., holds the concession for the operations and maintenance of Cavitex.
