Toyota unveils Wigo hatchback

MANILA, Philippines — Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) has introduced the refreshed Wigo hatchback, set to be available for retail purchase nationwide starting on Monday.

In a statement, TMP said the all-new Wigo, which features a sportier look and improved technology, was launched at the Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City on Friday.

The Wigo, which is known to be a preferred first car, is TMP’s best-selling hatchback.

“This is a very exciting launch for us at TMP because we know that the Wigo is one of the favorite Toyota models of Filipinos. The Wigo has given many new car buyers their memorable first car experience,” TMP president Atsuhiro Okamoto said.

“In fact, we have given thrill and joy to more than 149,000 Wigo owners since the model was introduced in the country in 2014,” he added.

The new Wigo is bigger and wider than the previous generation, providing increased interior and cargo space.

It is also easy to drive with functions like electronic power steering type, smart keyless entry, and push start ignition system for the G variant.

The vehicle has advanced safety features such as SRS airbags, Isofix Tether Anchors to keep kids safe in the backseat, as well as Vehicle Stability Control and Hill Start Assist.

The new Wigo is available in the following colors: Red Mica Metallic 2, Orange Metallic 3, Yellow SE, Silver Metallic 4, Gray Metallic and White 2, and has a price tag of P609,000 for the J variant, P684,000 for the E variant and P729,000 for the G variant.

Based on the latest data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. and Truck Manufacturers Association, TMP remains the country’s leading automotive company in terms of vehicle sales.

For the first semester, TMP sold a total 93,575 units and captured a market share of 46.23 percent.
