MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has approved the promotion, rank conferment, and changes in designation of various officers effective July 1.

Manuel V. Pangilinan will no longer hold the position of president but will remain as Meralco chairman and chief executive officer.

Pangilinan was elected as Meralco’s president and chief executive officer late last month, replacing Ray Espinosa.

Meralco senior vice president and head of networks Ronnie Aperocho has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer.

“This is part of the changes in designation aligned with Meralco’s goal to streamline its operations,” Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said.

“Mr. Pangilinan continues to lead Meralco as its chairman and CEO, while Mr. Ronnie Aperocho will oversee the day-to-day operations of the distribution utility following his promotion to executive vice president and chief operating officer,” he said.

Aperocho has been a senior vice president of Meralco since 2017.

Meanwhile, Meralco first vice president and chief commercial officer of customer retail services Ferdinand Geluz has been named as senior vice president and chief revenue officer, OIC subsidiary businesses.

Vice president and head of network planning and design Froilan Savet is promoted to first vice president and head of networks, while first vice president and chief of staff and supply chain advisor Maria Luisa Alvendia will become FVP and chief supply chain officer.

Jose Ronald Valles, first vice president and head of regulatory management office, is set to serve as first vice president and head of regulatory affairs of DU regulatory management.

New appointments, meanwhile, include Redel Domingo as FVP and head of MPower, Arnel Paciano Casanova as SVP and chief external and government affairs officer, Andrew Jason Tan as vice president and head of  DU Business Development Office, and Anthony Matthew Co as vice president and business development officer.

Meralco, the country’s largest electric power distribution company, had a total of 7.7 million customers as of end March.

Pangilinan earlier said he was looking at a “good year,” with improved earnings contribution from the generation business.

He also said Meralco could be headed for another double-digit growth in core profitability after starting the year on a high note with higher earnings and revenues.
