MANILA, Philippines — Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. has warned its subscribers against a new scam that circulates a phishing e-mail pretending to be a link to a SIM registration portal.

Globe is asking its customers to refrain from clicking on e-mails mimicking Globe’s advisory on SIM registration supposedly offering assistance in completing the procedure.

The mobile giant said that the scam tells the targets that their SIM registration was found unsuccessful and that they have to click on a link to try again.

“Please click this link to register again. Reprocess your registration after three days to avoid total deactivation of your SIM,” the scam read, according to Globe.

Globe chief information security officer Anton Bonifacio advised subscribers against clicking on the link in the phishing e-mail.

Scammers continue to make last minute efforts to deceive as many Filipinos as they can, especially as the deadline for SIM registration is nearing.

“We have become aware of such deceptive communications and we strongly advise customers to ignore and [to] block these messages, which are a malicious misuse of the new SIM Registration Act,” Bonifacio said.

Under Republic Act 11934 or the SIM Registration Act, subscribers are required to sign up their SIM with their telco providers within the extended deadline of July 25.
