118 firms to bid in green energy auction

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 118 companies consisting of some of the country’s major renewable energy developers have qualified to participate in the second round of the green energy auction or GEA-2, the Department of Energy (DOE) said.

The DOE said 339 out of 378 submissions of registration for different renewable energy technologies from 118 companies were found compliant to join in the bidding process for the 11,600 megawatts (MW) under the GEA-2.

The list provided by the DOE showed that Phinma Solar Energy Corp. has the most number of potential bids with 110, followed by Corenergy Inc. with 38 and Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables Inc. with 30.

Other companies with more than one potential bids are Alternergy Tanay Wind Corp., Citicore Solar Negros Occidental 2 Inc., Citicore Solar Quezon Inc., Citicore Wind Energy Corp., EDC Pagali Burgos Wind Power Corp., FDC Green Energy Corp., First Gen Visayas Energy Inc., First Maxpower International Corp., Freya Renewables Inc., Greencore Power Solution 2 Inc., GRM Cagayan Valley Inc., Iligansolar, Infineum 4 Energy Inc., Ixus Solar Energy Corp., Joy-Nostalg Solaris Inc., Magnus Ditrolic Solar Inc., Molave Investments Corp., New Asia Power Energy Corp., New Asia Power Energy II Corp., NKS Solar One Inc., Nortesol Inc., Nortesol IV Inc., One Renewable Energy Ent. Inc., Power Beacon Renewable Solutions Inc., Santa Cruz Solar Energy Inc., Siena Solar Power Corp., Solar Philippines Commercial Rooftop Projects Inc., Solar Valley Energy Solutions Inc., Trustpower Corp. and Victorias Green Energy Corp.

The DOE said qualified bidders are expected to post a bid bond amounting to a minimum of P1 million per MW.

The agency will hold the auction proper on June 19 and the winning bidders will be announced on June 28 following the post-evaluation process.

The renewable energy facilities to be set up by the winning bidders will be awarded with 20-year power supply agreements.

The GEA-2 will offer a total capacity of 11,600 MW installation target, with 3,600 MW for 2024, 3,600 MW for 2025 and 4,400 MW for 2026.

To be auctioned are renewable energy capacities of 7,715 MW in Luzon, 2,695 MW in Visayas, and 1,190 MW in Mindanao from 2024 to 2026.

The installation targets for 2024 and 2025 cover ground-mounted and roof-mounted solar, onshore wind and biomass, and will include floating solar and waste-to-energy capacities for 2026.

The green energy auction program was designed to continuously trigger the increase of renewable energy capacity in the country, which will help realize the government’s target of 35 percent renewable energy in the energy mix by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.
