Solar panels to be installed over aquaculture farms

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture has partnered with solar firm Solar Blue Inc. to install solar panels over aquaculture production areas.

DA senior undersecretary Domingo Panganiban recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Solar Blue Inc. president Maria Theresa Capellan to introduce and establish innovative projects in food production, particularly in aquaculture.

Under the MOU, the DA through its Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) shall identify available fishponds for lease and provide technical assistance, among others.

Meanwhile, Solar Blue shall be responsible for capacity building in the community to provide knowledge and skills on the construction, operations, and maintenance of the solar on stilts technology, among others.

Solar Blue is a corporation that focuses on the development of solar energy and is recognized for implementing projects aimed at boosting food production.

It is affiliated with the China Machinery Engineering Corp. (CMEC) and SunAsia Energy Inc. (SEI).
