First Gen renews supply contract

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — First Gen Corp.’s partnership with bathroom equipment manufacturer Hocheng Philippines Corp. for the supply of renewable energy has been extended.

First Gen said Hocheng Philippines, also known as HCG, has renewed its contract for the supply of clean, reliable, and renewable energy.

Under the new contract, First Gen’s 100 percent renewable energy arm Energy Development Corp. (EDC) will supply HCG’s facility with geothermal power.

EDC has a 1,185.40-megawatt geothermal portfolio, accounting for 62 percent of the country’s total installed geothermal capacity.

Carlo Vega, vice president and head of First Gen’s power marketing, trading, and economics, said the company welcomes HCG’s continued partnership.

“We believe that choosing the right energy partner allows them to move toward a future that goes beyond sustainability for them and its customers’ precious bathroom,” Vega said.

First Gen said the continuous commitment to the use of green energy in its operations, with its 850-kilowatt power demand, is consistent with HCG’s decarbonization goals.

“We are confident that First Gen can help meet our goals by providing efficient electricity through their low-carbon footprint resources. Furthermore, we are exploring solar rooftop projects to complement our geothermal source of power,” Hocheng Philippines senior vice president and officer-in-charge Eugene Lin said.

Lin said that aside from the use of renewable energy, HCG has several initiatives that contribute to the company’s green and decarbonization objectives.

“For instance, we have innovations that offer water-saving products to green buildings, from six liters to four liters per flush product. This doesn’t only help the environment on water wastages, but also results in additional savings for our customers,” he said.

HCG aims to provide quality LEED-compliant bathroom fixtures with sophisticated designs and excellent functionality to every Filipino home.

Aside from geothermal, First Gen’s portfolio of power plants runs on hydro, solar wind, and natural gas, considered the cleanest form of fossil fuel.
