4 firms join Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index
MANILA, Philippines — Four listed companies in the Philippines made it to the 2023 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), a roster of 484 companies headquartered in 45 territories across the globe that are committed to transparency in gender-data reporting.
These are Consunji-led companies DMCI Holdings Inc. and Semirara Mining and Power Corp. (SMPC) and Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co. as well as the Gokongweis’ Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc.
The GEI is a barometer of the performance of public companies that are committed to disclosing their efforts to support gender equality through policy development, representation and transparency.
For the Consunji-led companies, this marks the third time they earned a spot in the prestigious global list.
DMCI Holdings and SMPC chairman Isidro Consunji welcomed the recognition, saying that diversity and representation matter in their group.
“When different voices and perspectives are included in the conversation, companies benefit from a wider range of ideas and insights,” Consunji said.
Bloomberg GEI is a modified market capitalization-weighted index that aims to track the performance of public companies committed to transparency in gender-data reporting.
The GEI measures gender equality across five pillars: leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, anti-sexual harassment policies, and external brand.
Those that have a market capitalization of $1 billion are eligible for inclusion in the index although all public companies are encouraged to disclose supplemental gender data for their company’s investment profile on the Bloomberg terminal.
Member companies represent a variety of sectors, including financials, technology, and utilities, which continue to have the highest company representation in the index from 2022.
Peter Grauer, chairman of Bloomberg and founding chairman of the US 30% Club said they continue to see an increase in both interest and membership globally, reflecting a shared goal of transparency in gender-related metrics.
In a statement, DMCI Holdings said they submitted a social survey created by Bloomberg, in collaboration with subject matter experts globally.
“Those included on this year’s index scored above a global threshold established by Bloomberg to reflect disclosure and the achievement or adoption of best-in-class statistics and policies. Both the survey and the GEI are voluntary and have no associated costs,” DMCI said said.
