Converge to provide  high-speed connectivity to Clark International Airport

Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has signed a partnership with the operator of Clark International Airport for the provision of high-speed internet that would support it becoming a primary gateway.

Converge and Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD) Corp. yesterday said they entered into an agreement to run the Clark airport on direct internet access (DIA) to ensure it has a dedicated line for connectivity.

Converge CEO and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy said the DIA extends connectivity services to both passengers of Clark International Airport and stores operating in it.

“Our partnership with LIPAD is proof of our commitment to provide the best fiber solution to the country’s critical transportation hubs. Our DIA enterprise will support this gateway’s connectivity needs, for both travelers and commercial establishments,” Uy said.

He added that hooking up to the DIA gives LIPAD an added efficiency in managing the Clark airport, especially with its time-sensitive operational processes. He said the DIA provides business tenants uninterrupted connectivity that would improve   their productivity.

The DIA sets up Clark International Airport an end-to-end fiber infrastructure that LIPAD can use not only to connect to the internet, but also to secure its database.

Converge chief operations officer Jesus Romero said the Clark airport should be developed as much as possible because the gateway contributes to the economic growth of the Philippines.

In September, President Marcos led the opening of the Clark International Airport’s New Terminal Building, a 110,000 square meter facility that can accommodate about eight million passengers yearly.

The President said Clark, including its airport, plays an important role in turning the country into a logistics giant. He added that the government should open direct flights around the regions to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Converge, for its part, has expanded its fiber footprint to nearly 600,000 kilometers, as it looks to close the year strong by scaling up its reach in underserved areas. On top of this, Converge has installed more than 1.7 million fiber ports nationwide as of September.

On a larger scale, Converge has passed through 13.49 million homes—or 52.1 percent of total households—as of June after putting up around 650,000 fiber ports in the second quarter alone.
