AboitizPower to supply RE to Teleperformance

MANILA, Philippines — Aboitiz Power Corp. has been selected by business process outsourcing firm Teleperformance Philippines to power its offices with renewable energy.

AboitizPower supplies communities and businesses with power derived from run-of-river, large hydro, solar, and geothermal through its renewable energy (RE) solutions brand Cleanergy.

AboitizPower, through its retail electricity supply company Advent Energy Inc., will provide Teleperformance Philippines with Cleanergy to initially power its Bacolod and Sucat offices and take the BPO company closer to its sustainability goals.

Teleperformance said they plan to switch more offices to Cleanergy in the future.

“As a business process outsourcing company, we are proud to contribute to the country’s growth by providing thousands of jobs to career-seekers,” Teleperformance Philippines chief executive officer Francisco Lara said.

“We take our participation in the Philippines’ nation-building a step further by adding climate action as part of our commitment to the environment, which we call the citizen of the planet initiative,” he said.

Lara said transitioning to RE is easy with a reliable partner like AboitizPower to guide them through the process.

Teleperformance is among the country’s most prominent BPO companies, helping contribute to the economy’s growth with over 57,000 employees in 23 business sites.

Lara said the company could leave its mark as one of the first BPOs in the country to use RE in their operations with the switch.

With BPOs consuming energy around the clock, making the shift to RE is considered a step toward decarbonizing a key sector of the Philippine economy.

“We hope this action will inspire other BPOs in the country to be as environmentally conscious and consider switching to RE,” Lara said.

AboitizPower senior vice president for commercial operations Sandro Aboitiz said the transition to a cleaner energy future involves the convergence of many things, among which are the choices consumers make, supportive government policies, and the participation of industry players.

“This partnership with Teleperformance affirms our efforts to emphasize the impact retail electricity customers have in preserving the environment through the kind of energy they choose,” Aboitiz said.

“We are happy that through the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), we can collaborate with various industries under a long-term goal of achieving business sustainability and energy security through Cleanergy,” he said.

The GEOP is a scheme that empowers consumers by allowing them to choose RE as their source of electricity.

The government said this would help the country achieve energy independence by lessening reliance on imported energy sources such as fossil fuels.

AboitizPower has allotted P190 billion to expand its RE portfolio to 4,600 megawatts (MW) or threefold its current capacity by 2030.

The investments are expected to help address the market’s growing demands and contribute to managing climate-related risks.
