MANILA, Philippines — Po family-led Century Pacific Group is expanding its program which has provided a total of 45 million protein servings to more than 300,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
This year, the group aspires to increase the number of protein servings to 10 million through a partnership with Gawad Kalinga (GK), a Philippine-based poverty alleviation and nation-building movement. Both are set to launch a nationwide campaign against hunger this July, the Philippine Nutrition Month.
The Century Pacific Group is behind household brands such as 555 Sardines, Century Tuna, Argentina, and Birch Tree.
In 2010, Century Group founder Ricardo Po Sr. started the program which is called ‘Kain Po.’ Po passed away last year at the age of 90.
The feeding program began as a disaster response initiative. The company also partnered with orphanages, to promote healthy eating habits among the youth.
Christopher Po, executive chairman of Century Pacific Food, said that as the program progressed, the benefits of proper nutrition became more apparent.
In 2021, ‘Kain Po’ gave out an all-time high of eight million protein servings in one year.
