Peri-Peri opens ‘Fly-thru’ store in Cavite

MANILA, Philippines — Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures Inc., the listed full-service restaurant chain, has expanded its service offerings for Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken with the opening of its first drive through outlet in the country.

The so-called ‘Fly-thru’ store, which marks Peri-Peri’s 54th outlet, is located in Vermosa, an emerging residential and retail lifestyle hub in Cavite.

Shakey’s president and CEO Vicente Gregorio said that in a span of two years since the company acquired Peri-Peri in 2019, it has already more than doubled its store network.

“As we move forward in pursuit of sustainable growth, we will continue to leverage our strength in building innovative store formats and wow our guests with great experiences,” Gregorio said.

Peri-Peri is Shakey’s second largest chain of restaurants. At acquisition, the chain had 23 stores in the metro.

“We are aggressively expanding our store footprint in anticipation of the Philippine reopening. We are already seeing a resurgence in dine in but also believe that certain guest preferences will remain. Prioritizing convenience and safety is one of them. Thus, we are building stores that are flexible and can cater to both on- and off-premise dining,” Gregorio said.

According to Gregorio, all new stores being built demonstrate attractive box economics, even amidst the pandemic.

“The challenges that we hurdled during this pandemic were gargantuan, so the solutions needed to be of greater proportions. We’ve made structural changes and strategic pivots in the past 2 years, all of which enable us to build innovative yet cost efficient and profitable store formats that deliver fast payback,” Gregorio said.

Aside from Peri-Peri, Shakey’s also owns the master franchise of R&B Milk Tea in the Philippines, one of the leading milk tea players in Singapore. Their products are now available in Shakey’s stores and there are also two independent stores, one of which is the first drive-through milk tea store in the country.

In 2021,Shakey’s also relaunched Project Pie, a modern and upscale pizza concept and an artisan pizza chain known for its build-your-own pizzas.

This year, the company likewise announced that it has acquired Potato Corner, one of the leading food kiosk brands in the Philippines renowned for its flavored fries. Potato Corner has over 1,000 stores in the Philippines and a wide store network internationally.
