4 Philippine firms land in Bloomberg’s Gender-Equality Index

MANILA, Philippines — Four listed Philippine companies made it to the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), which measures gender equality across big listed companies across the globe.

The four Philippine firms are Consunji-led listed companies, DMCI Holdings Inc. and Semirara Mining and Power Corp. and Gokongwei-led first Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. (RRHI) and Robinsons Land Corp.(RLC).

DMCI Holdings and Semirara Mining are chaired by Isidro Consunji while his sister Maria Cristina Gotianun is the president and COO of Semirara Mining.

RRHI, the retail business of the Gokongwei conglomerate is headed by Robina Gokongwei-Pe while RLC is headed by its president and CEO Frederick Go.

The four listed companies are part of the 2022 roster which includes 418 companies across 45 countries and regions.

Member companies represent a variety of sectors, including financials, technology and utilities, which collectively have the highest company representation in the index.

Specifically, the market capitalization-weighted index aims to track the performance of public companies committed to transparency in gender-data reporting.

The index looks across five pillars: female leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, anti-sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand.

DMCI and Semirara were also in the list last year.

“While our businesses belong to male-dominated industries, we do not distinguish roles and opportunities according to gender. We empower and promote people based on their individual merits and contributions to the organization,” Consunji said.

“We are proud to recognize DMCI Holdings and SMPC and the other 416 companies included in the 2022 GEI for their commitment to transparency and setting a new standard in gender-related data reporting,” said Peter Grauer, chairman of Bloomberg and founding chairman of the US 30 percent Club.

He said that even though the threshold for inclusion in the GEI has risen, the member list continues to grow.

“This is a testament that more companies are working to improve upon their gender-related metrics, fostering more opportunity for diverse talent to succeed in their organization,” Grauer said.

DMCI Holdings and SMPC submitted a social survey created by Bloomberg, in collaboration with subject matter experts globally. Those included on this year’s index scored at or above a global threshold established by Bloomberg to reflect disclosure and the achievement or adoption of best-in-class statistics and policies.

While all public companies are encouraged to disclose supplemental gender data for their company’s investment profile on the Bloomberg Terminal®, those that have a market capitalization of $1 billion are eligible for inclusion in the index.
